Unveiling Depth and Clarity: The Complete Guide to Using JANCHUN Casting Resin

When you choose to preserve a flower's delicate beauty, encapsulate a cherished memory, or create a deep-pour river-like landscape, you are not just using a material—you are performing an act of alchemy. JANCHUN Casting Resin is engineered specifically to create thick, bubble-free, and crystal-clear castings, making it the ideal partner for your most ambitious projects. To master this craft, follow our professional guide and unlock the secret to creating deep, luminous art.

Phase 1: Meticulous Preparation – The Foundation of Success

Casting is a dance with time, and preparation is your rehearsal. Do not skip these critical steps.

  1. The Environment is Key

    • Ideal Conditions: Work in a well-ventilated space with humidity below 60% and a stable temperature of 23-25°C (73-77°F). Incorrect temperature and humidity are the primary causes of bubbles, cloudiness (blushing), and improper curing.

    • Level Workspace: Ensure your work surface is perfectly level. Use a spirit level to check. Even a slight tilt will result in an uneven casting.

    • Dust Control: Clean your work area beforehand to minimize dust settling on your piece.

  2. Molds and Release Agents

    • Mold Selection: Use silicone molds designed for epoxy resin, such as those from the JANCHUN collection. They are flexible and allow for easy demolding.

    • Apply Release Agent: Even with new molds, we recommend lightly spraying a mold release agent. This simplifies demolding significantly and extends the life of your mold.

  3. Precise Measurement – The Non-Negotiable Step

    • Golden Ratio: Strictly adhere to the specific weight or volume ratio of Part A (Resin) to Part B (Hardener) indicated on your JANCHUN Casting Resin packaging.

    • Use the Right Tools: Always use a digital scale for measurement. Eyeballing or using volume cups often leads to inaccurate ratios, resulting in a tacky, uncured resin.

    • Pro Tip: Pour Part B into Part A, not the other way around.

Phase 2: Mixing and Coloring – The Art of Creation

This is where you infuse the material with your vision.

  1. Slow and Thorough Mixing

    • Technique: Use a clean mixing stick to stir for at least 5-7 minutes. Use a slow, scraping, "fold-and-lift" motion, ensuring you scrape the sides and bottom of the container. Avoid vigorous stirring, which introduces countless micro-bubbles.

  2. Coloring with Care

    • Compatibility: Only use resin-specific colorants, such as resin dyes, mica powders, or alcohol inks.

    • Moderation is Key: The total amount of colorant should generally not exceed 5-7% of the total resin volume. Excessive pigment can interfere with the curing system and clarity.

    • Two-Step Process: For best results, mix your colorants thoroughly into Part A (Resin) first before adding Part B (Hardener). This ensures even color distribution.

Phase 3: Pouring and Debubbling – The Test of Patience

This phase requires the most finesse and calm.

  1. The Slow Pour

    • Pour the mixed resin into your mold slowly and in a thin stream, along the side or from a single point high above the mold. Avoid pouring from a great height directly into the center, as this traps air.

  2. Deep-Pour? Cast in Layers

    • For castings deeper than 2 cm (0.8 inches), we strongly recommend a layered approach. Pour layers approximately 1-2 cm thick. Allow each layer to cure to a gel-like state (tack-free but still warm) before pouring the next. This prevents excessive heat buildup (exotherm) and potential cracking.

  3. Eliminating Bubbles

    • Primary Tool: Heat Gun. Immediately after each pour, use a heat gun. Pass it quickly and steadily over the surface, keeping it at a safe distance to avoid damaging the mold. The heat lowers the resin's viscosity, allowing trapped bubbles to rise and pop.

    • Secondary Aid: Isopropyl Alcohol: For stubborn surface bubbles, lightly mist the air above the casting with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol and let the fine mist settle. This can help break the surface tension and pop bubbles.

Phase 4: Curing and Demolding – The Reward

Let time complete the transformation.

  1. Dust-Free Coverage

    • Once poured, immediately cover your project with a box or a dedicated dust cover. Resist the urge to move or disturb it for the first 24 hours.

  2. The Patience to Wait

    • JANCHUN Casting Resin will typically be firm enough to demold after 24-48 hours. Note that it is not yet fully cured.

    • Full cure and maximum hardness, chemical resistance, and scratch resistance are achieved after 7 days or more. Only after a full cure should you attempt sanding or polishing.

  3. Gentle Demolding

    • To demold, gently flex and stretch the silicone mold, working your way around the edges to push the casting out. Your patience here is the best tool.
